snccharlotte's Diaryland Diary ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Abandoned Mine Shafts Yesterday was a really awesome day. I got a phone call around nine in the morning from Jim telling me to be at his house in 45 minutes. So I get over there, and it turned out we were going to Wrightwood with Joey, Mike, and Michelle. At first I thought,"Okay we're gonna go up there to look at trees and stuff." Turns out they wanted to take a 9 mile hike through the woods. At first I was not into the idea of walking nearly ten miles, but Mike insisted there was some great stuff at the end of the hike. So I went along. It took a while to get where we were going, but there was some cool stuff along the way. At one point, it fell so silent it was almost scary. I looked off of the trail and we were on a really high cliff. There were no roads, no buildings, nothing for miles! It was amazing because all you could see were perfect mountains all around you, untouched. All I could hear were birds. No traffic, no children screaming, nothing. I had no idea that places like that still existed. At the end of the hike, were in the middle of the woods, and we found a huge abandoned mine shaft, with water coming out of it. At first no one wanted to go in, but I thought,"When the hell will I ever have another chance to explore an abandoned mine shaft? Close to never. I'm going." So I led the way with the flashlight for a little ways, but I chickened out, and shoved Mike in front of me. It was so cold in there, and I didn't want a ghost man coming and grabbing me. So we explored the mine for awhile, and then walked another 4.5 miles back to the car. Yesterday was the best day I've had in a really long time. 10:05 a.m. - 2004-07-08 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
